Jana J. Shakespeare (cadenza) > Day 112/365
Friday, 1 August 2008
We're in the middle of the Cardiff festival, when for a month, the city is filled with shows, exhibitions, attractions and street theater. These South American musicians were totally hokey, but they played well and their costumes were spectacular! -Even if the American in me was laughing away at their South American music and North American indian decorations like dream catchers.

Andrew's niece, Charlotte, lives in Isleworth, west London, but was visiting her father, Tony, this weekend. So we all met at a restaurant for lunch. Charlotte is on the left. What Tony likes to call his "bit of fluff" (although she's not), Sarah, is in the middle. Tony, on the right, looks SO like Andrew!

One of the "living statues" on Queen Street. She would hold perfectly still until someone gave her money, and she'd make robot-like movements. I wonder how much cold cream it takes for her to clean up at night?

Once the only hospital in Cardiff, the Royal Infirmary is impractical for modern medicine and has been largely superceded by Llandough Hospital and the University Hospital of Wales. The Royal Infirmary still houses some out-patient facilities and administrative offices, but much of this sprawl of magnificent gothic buildings is closed and derelict. I frequently go there for my work as we have an office there, and often find little forlorn touches amid the decay. This is the entrance to the old pediatric unit, now abandoned.
