Jana J. Shakespeare (cadenza)  > Project 365 > July 2008: Morning-sickness, Madness, and Exhaustion
Pregnancy and Project 365 do not make a great combination! So I've had to use a few cheats for the days when I was just too ill to care. Sorry.

Happy birthday, Nikola! Our friend had us over for a birthday picnic tonight. It was a fun evening.

100 days! I don't know what this flower is called. It's actually a weed, and grows wild all over the place in Wales. I've seen them growing in bushes ten feet high -- people never want to chop them down, because the flowers are very pretty! This one is in the next-door neighbour's courtyard.

Viaduct, Porthkerry Park: Victorian and made of stone and with 13 arched spans of 50’ and three of 45’, it stands 110’ high and dominates the little valley that leads to the beach. This is one of my favourite parks.

Another Welsh tradition that's dying out. Happily, this one is going slowly. A hundred years ago, the Welsh would decorate their house entrances with the most beautiful tiles. This is a floor. It's no longer done in modern, mass-produced houses that you couldn't tell apart from any other house in the British Isles, and hundreds of old buildings have had their tiles painted/plastered/ ripped out by cultural vandals who deserve jail. But (rant over), there's still hundreds of examples left, lovingly maintained by people who care. This one is a couple doors down from my house.

Not content with tiling their floors, the Welsh also tiled their entryway walls. Wall tiles tend to be elaborately textured, glazed and painted in a way that floor tiles weren't. This is a selection of four examples of wall tiles from entrances on my street.

This is where I had lunch today, a pub in Barry, close to where I work.

There's something about pinwheels that makes happy childhood memories flood back.

Another trip to the temple in East Sussex. I think I'm finally starting to look a little pregnant too! I've thought it was one of the sad ironies of pregnancy that you feel your worst when you have absolutely no bump to show for it.

This is Riley. He's one of the children in the Primary program I teach in at our church. He was baptised today by his father, who is the leader in our local congregation.
