Despite not feeling quite like myself, I've spent much of this month on the road, which I always love!

Jana J. Shakespeare (cadenza) > Day 51/365
Sunday, 1 June 2008
The Burial Chamber at St Lythans, a megalithic burial chamber dated to around 4000 B.C. (that's 1000 years before Stonehenge). I've been wanting to see this since I moved here. It's very close to where I live, but I hadn't figured out just where it was. I found it and was surprised at how much bigger it was than I thought. A person could almost stand upright inside it. Really, it's an amazing site. To think they were hauling around slabs of stone weighing tons before they'd even invented wheels! I'll have to stop again at Tinkinswood Burial Chamber in the same area and post that one on another day.

Behind St. Donats Church and Castle (outside of Llantwit Major). I went exploring on my way home today after I saw my client. I found a castle and 11th century church that I never knew existed. My June pictures thus far are so green and so very Welsh. Even though it looks lovely, my husband, like a proper Brit, is constantly cursing the rain that creates the green. After all, what would the British have to talk about if not the weather--they'd lose a piece of their national character if they stopped whinging.

I pulled over on the way home from a client's house in the Vale of Glamorgan and lured the cows toward me with a bit of grass so I could take a photo of them with my mobile phone.

I spent the evening making a cheesecake for our leaving do for my coworker tomorrow. It was my first time baking a real cheesecake (they tend to mostly have the gelatinous, no-bake type here--yuck!) I used my mother's recipe. I've been hoping to try it out for a while.

We're in mourning at my work because we weren't able to secure the continued funding this year from the Welsh Assembly Government for our pilot consultation program. Steve has been a tremendous resource, which has led to questions of how we can duplicate "Steve." We've had pictures of all of us standing up, Spartacus-style saying, "I am Steve!" One of my coworkers made this mug for him for his leaving-do today.

Today's photo is more topical than artistic, but it was a great memory for me. I began my antenatal care today and saw the midwife for the first time. Andrew came with me, and we were both a bit in awe that we were in a position to be seeing a midwife. The only downside was with pregnancy hormones setting in I was so tired I had a hard time staying awake. I was asleep on Andrew's shoulder when the midwife came to get us. Next week she'll be coming to my house for an hour-long information session. She gave me all these pamphlets to read before that time.

We went to London with friends for the weekend, and near our hotel we found this real police box. It was enough to bring out the inner geek in both Andrew and I--we had to take a picture with the "Tardis." Fellow Dr. Who geeks will understand. These used to exist on street corners in London before telephones were widespread in order to ring the police in an emergency.

The London Eye. It was hard to choose today's photo--the London Eye, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, etc. We saw a lot today. I enjoyed this photo though. If you look closely, you'll see that people were pointing everywhich way in each of the cars of the Eye. I wonder if anyone was pointing at me?
